John David Jackson, better known by his stage name Fabolous, is an American hip hop singer-songwriter and rapper.
Born 18th November 1977 in Brooklyn, New York City, Jackson took an interest in hip hop music and started rapping in his teens. He was invited to rap live on DJ Clue’s WQHT Hot 97 radio show, and after several appearances he soon landed a recording contract with Desert Storm Records, then a distribution deal with Elektra Records. After appearing on several mixtapes with DJ Clue and other Roc-A-Fella artists, he began work on his debut solo album.
Ghetto Fabolous was released on 11th September 2001. Although not the most auspicious of dates, the album was an instant commercial hit. It reached number three on the Billboard 200, having sold over million copies to date, and spawned the Top 20 hit Trade It All (ft. Jagged Edge), as well as the Top 40 singles Young’n and Can’t Deny It (ft. Nate Dogg).
Next came the 2003 album Street Dreams, which also reached number three on the Billboard 200 and produced four charting singles – including the Top 5 hits Can’t Let You Go (ft. Lil’ Mo and Mike Shorey) and Into You (ft. Ashanti/Tamia) – and then the singer’s third album Real Talk. Released in November 2004, it also reached the Top 10 on the US albums chart and produced the singles Baby (ft. Mike Shorey) and Breathe – which reached number ten in the Hot 100 chart.
Fabolous has since released a further two studio albums – From Nothin’ to Somethin’ and Loso’s Way – which reached numbers two and one on the Billboard 200 respectively, selling almost a million copies between them. The albums also produced a total of eight singles: Diamonds (ft. Young Jeezy), Return of the Hustle (ft. Swizz Beatz), Make Me Better (ft. Ne-Yo), Baby Don’t Go (ft. T-Pain and Jermaine Dupri), Throw It in the Bag (ft. The-Dream), My Time (ft. Jeremih), Everything, Everyday, Everywhere (ft. Keri Hilson) and Money Goes, Honey Stay (ft. Jay-Z).
The singer’s sixth studio album Loso’s Way 2 is due for release on 23rd November 2010.
