Kid Cudi’s upcoming second album tops Elle 25

by SimpleT on Sep.08, 2010, under Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi hit the big time in 2009 with the release of his debut album Man on the Moon: The End of Day. It shot to the Top 5 in the US Billboard 200 and spawned the hit singles Day ‘n’ Nite, Make Her Stay and Pursuit of Happiness. Now he’s hit the top of the charts again – courtesy of the fashion magazine Elle.

The Elle 25 is a list compiled the mag of what its staff are most looking forward to before the end of 2010 – and Kid Cudi’s new album topped the list! The staff were given a preview of Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, which is set for release in October, and gave it glowing reviews. “A sophomore effort that up-stages his first” wrote one staffer, “with booming choruses, raging electro beats, and a rock-rooted single, Erase Me, which features that other hypercool skinny-jean-clad rapper, Kanye West.”

Two singles from the album, Wylin’ Cause I’m Young and Mr. Rager, have recently been leaked online.

Black Eyed Peas gig criticized for lacking energy

by SimpleT on Aug.31, 2010, under Black Eyed Peas

The Black Eyed Peas may be one of the biggest pop groups in the world, but they have recently come in for heavy criticism for their lackluster display at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri in August.

The Los Angeles group, comprised of vocalists Fergie, Apl.De.Ap and Taboo and the musician Will.I.Am, recently released their fifth studio album The E.N.D. (an acronym for Energy Never Dies) – but music critic Kevin Johnson claimed that at their sell-out concert “the energy felt curiously dim.” He also said “the show the group brought to town was all spectacle, never spectacular, and always by the numbers.”

The group have had a successful couple of years – with their latest album spawning the US number one singles Boom Boom Pow, I Gotta Feeling (which topped the Hot 100 for an unprecedented 26 weeks between them) and Imma Be – but while critics agree that their succession of hits is a big achievement, many believe they need to up the energy at their live shows to secure their place in history as pop icons.

T.I. says song with Lady Gaga may be scrapped

by SimpleT on Aug.30, 2010, under Lady Gaga, T.I.

Earlier this year, T.I. was proudly telling every reporter he could that he had recorded a track with Lady Gaga for his upcoming album King Uncaged. Now it appears the album, which is set to be released sometime before the end of the year, won’t even include the much anticipated collaboration.

Just a few months ago the rapper was crowing about how excited he was to have worked with Lady Gaga. “She’s a phenomenal talent”, he said. “I think she’s an entertainer, in all aspects of the word… a classic, all-around entertainer. A global star. I’m extremely proud to work with her.”

Now he’s told Rap-Up.com that the much-hyped song may be scrapped altogether before the album is released, as Lady Gaga felt it wasn’t up to standard. “She brought it to my knowledge that she would like to top what we already have,” said the rapper. “I don’t know if that’s going to be a keeper.”

It looks like we’ll have to wait until King Uncaged is officially released before we know for sure. T.I. ringtones are available for free download on mobijoy.com

50 Cent drops bombs on new Cee-Lo track

by SimpleT on Aug.27, 2010, under 50 Cent

50 Cent has been fairly quiet over the last twelve months. That’s not to say he hasn’t been shooting his mouth off about his fellow rappers and pulling some outrageous publicity stunts, but in terms of his rap career he hasn’t released a single since 2009’s flop Baby by Me (ft. Ne-Yo), from his disappointing album Before I Self Destruct. But now 50 is back in style with an appearance on Cee-Lo’s new single Fuck You.

The song, from Cee-Lo’s upcoming album The Lady Killer, sees 50 Cent back to his best: delivering double quick raps that are big on attitude and style. The appearance is the latest of many in 2010, which have included guest spots on Shorty Mack’s Rap To U, E-40’s Bitch (Remix) and Tony Yayo’s Pass the Patron.

The rapper is set to release his fifth studio album Black Magic soon, and by all accounts it’s a return to form for the rapper. So keep an eye out for it sometime in late 2010, meanwhile, you can check 50 cent ringtones on mobijoy.com.

Eminem’s Recovery marks six weeks as UK number one

by SimpleT on Aug.23, 2010, under Eminem

It’s official – Eminem’s latest album Recovery is his most successful ever in the UK, having just celebrated its sixth non-consecutive week on the top spot. It first appeared at the summit of the UK Albums Chart on Sunday 27th June and stayed there for two weeks before being pipped by Kylie Minogue’s Aphrodite. However, it soon rallied again and spent a further three weeks at the top before dropping to second after Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs. Then, on 15th August 2010, it triumphantly returned to number one.

The six week reign makes the album Eminem’s longest-running UK number one ever, ahead of 2002’s The Eminem Show and 2005’s Curtain Call – The Hits, which both spent five weeks at the top of the UK Albums Chart. Recovery, which is also Eminem’s seventh UK number one album, has also produced two US Billboard Hot 100 number one hit singles: Not Afraid and Love the Way You Lie (ft. Rihanna). These and many more Eminem ringtones can be downloaded from mobijoy.com

All in all, 2010 has been a very good year so far for Eminem.

He developed an interest in music at a young age and in the late 1990s set up the label Big Gates Records with his cousin Ronnell Lawrence Lavatte.
